FAQ

How often do I have to clean a pellet or corn stove or furnace?

St. Croix stoves and furnaces require a minimal amount of "daily maintenance," which normally consists of dropping the clinker and adding fuel (corn stove), or shaking down ashes and adding fuel (pellet stove), along with cleaning the glass with a dry paper towel and perhaps dumping the ash pan. It would also be a good idea to operate the heat exchange tube scraper rod on a "daily" basis. "Periodic" maintenance and "yearly" maintenance are spelled out very thoroughly in the operations and maintenance manual supplied with each St. Croix stove or furnace, or can be viewed under the support section of this website. Another suggestion that pertains to "daily" maintenance is to run the St. Croix stove or furnace on a high setting for a minimum of 20 to 30 minutes per day. This will aid in keeping the firebox area clean, along with maintaining the overall efficiency and performance of the St. Croix stove or furnace. **Please read your operations manual! Keep in mind the frequency of maintenance may vary depending on the quality of fuel being burned in the St. Croix stove or furnace.

Is Corian stain-resistant?

Corian is stain resistant. Because Corian is nonporous, stains cannot penetrate the surface, so its easy to clean and maintain.

What corn is best to burn?

The St. Croix stove or furnace is one of the most forgiving appliances on the market, however, we recommend corn that is 15% moisture or less that is clean and free of cracked kernels or fines. St. Croix prohibits the use of treated corn of any kind (i.e. seed corn).

Can you burn pellets in a corn stove?

Yes! In order to burn any amount of pellets in your "corn stove" we require a universal burn pot (part # 80P53890-R) with removable side shields, or the formerly built "retro-fit pellet pot." It is a REQUIREMENT that the side shields be REMOVED on the universal pot while burning pellets. This burn pot can be placed in the stove to allow you to burn corn, pellets, wheat or rye. Please contact your local dealer for more information on this burn pot.
